PIFF SUPPORTS RIDESHARING LEGISLATION
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 14, 2017) – The Personal Insurance Federation of Florida (PIFF) today praises the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee for passing SB 340 filed by Senator Jeff Brandes relating to Transportation Network Companies (TNC).
“In this day and age, Floridians and tourists expect safe transportation options- and it’s time that our legislators deliver a single framework for TNC to operate within.SB 340 helps to ensure that when drivers are operating during the app-on to app-off time frame, there are clear levels of required insurance to protect the driver, passengers and others sharing the roadways,” says Samantha Sexton, Vice President of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs with Personal Insurance Federation of Florida (PIFF).
PIFF supports Senator Brandes’ efforts to clarify Florida law and protect consumers by ensuring that there is insurance covering the driver and any passengers, that such insurance is primary, and that there is a clear process in place for handling claims resulting from crashes involving the TNC driver. Such clarity will streamline the claims process and help consumers recover their losses faster.
“SB 340 ends the patchwork of regulation throughout Florida, protecting both the driver and passengers in an event of an accident,” Sexton added.
The Personal Insurance Federation of Florida was formed in late 2010 with three charter members: Allstate and Castle Key Insurance Companies, The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies, and State Farm Insurance Companies, to create a dynamic, efficient, and competitive marketplace for personal insurance products for the benefit of all Floridians. PIFF charter members serve 45 percent of the automobile insurance market and more than 20 percent of the homeowners’ property insurance market.
