Seven years after they began raking in millions in storm repair insurance proceeds, luck is running out for Carlton Dewayne Dunko and Frank Martin Pureber. No more lavish lifestyles for them – just the prospect of spending time in prison for their sketchy business practices.
Missouri issued arrest warrants this week related to a roofing business, American Shingle and Siding, Dunko and Pureber ran in 12 states from 2008-2010.
The Missouri Attorney General’s Office has charged Dunko and Pureber with theft, deceptive practices and exploitation of the elderly.
Those charges mirror organized fraud charges filed by Florida’s Statewide Prosecutor back in October for the same business practices. The men ran a subsequent company based in Tampa from 2011-2013 called NBRC Construction LLC.
Florida insurance fraud detectives claim the two men solicited 97 homeowners for storm repairs covered by insurance, then pocketed the insurance money without doing any repairs.
In some cases they failed to pay contractors who then sought compensation for their work from homeowners under the threat of foreclosure if they didn’t pay up.
