State Sen. Joseph Abruzzo, D-Boynton Beach, and state Rep. Kevin Rader, D-Delray Beach, are switching races less than three weeks before Florida’s candidate qualifying deadline.
The maneuver comes 16 days before Florida’s June 24 deadline for candidates to submit paperwork and pay filing fees to secure their places on the 2016 ballot.
Senate districts were redrawn in December after courts ruled the Republican-led legislature illegally gerrymandered districts in 2012. The new plan throws three incumbent Democratic Senators — Abruzzo, Jeff Clemens of Atlantis and Maria Sachs of Delray Beach — into the same Senate District 31.
