SARASOTA COUNTY –
The race includes a 21-year-old who just graduated from college last month and two 71-year-old candidates who first won elected office in Sarasota County in the 1990s.
There’s a former sheriff’s deputy, a lawyer, a college professor, a financial advisor, a real estate professional and a former teacher.
Four of the candidates have nearly a half-century of combined experience in office. Three are running for the first time.
It is the most crowded state Senate race in Florida and also is expected to be one of the nastiest and most expensive, as seven candidates vie for the District 23 seat covering Sarasota County and part of Charlotte County.
